This is a classic. Classic story, classic characters, classic everything. With a somewhat modern twist, that is evident in the dialogues, the thoughts and the general decisions of the characters. I enjoyed reading this McCullough novel, even though I did know the original story (of course!). A historical novel that analyses the political and social problems of those days, the religion and the psychology of everyone involved. I particularly appreciated the plot intertwining with the history – I don’t particularly resist boredom in books, and in this one I was never bored. A good read, for work days and holidays, both!
