Bur. Or Burr.
A bur, or burr, is a structure that helps the plant protect or disperse its seeds.
Some animals tend to not want to take a bite of a thick, prickly seed. Others, walking by, inadvertently sweep up the bur that deftly sticks to their fur and so take the seeds as far as possible from the mother plant. Which is good (in case you were wondering).
