I love markets. I absolutely adore markets. Visiting the local markets is one of the things I like best when travelling. Maybe it’s because I love food. Might be.
Anyway, the receptionist at the hotel told us to visit the Mercado de la Ribera at the edge of the Old Town in Bilbao, so we did.
And weren’t disappointed!
It has some bars downstairs and the rest of the stalls – butcheries, seafood stalls, fishmongers, cheese stalls, cold cut stalls – were both on the first and second floor.
The most curious thing? The game animals (hares, rabbits, pigeons, pheasants, quails) on show.
The most beautiful thing? The stained glass windows.
The worst thing? The fact that we didn’t have a kitchen to return to.
