We changed house recently, moving to a huge house with a garden. The previous owners were quite the gardeners, and I decided not to do anything drastic for the time being. Just…watch, to see what happened.
One of the most surprising things was these black irises that started flowering at the beginning of May. Gorgeous and so, so black! I had only seen then in shops – they even smelt good! Then one day, we were hit by a wind storm that bent and broke many stems. I looked at them for a while, then it dawned on me – I could take them inside and put them in a vase!
About half an hour later, the sun came in through the west window and shone its setting light right on the irises.
It was too good not to take advantage of.
